Coal wrought ecological, public health, and economic havoc in Pennsylvania. Now, the fracking industry is doing it all over again.

GREENE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA—Last weekend, I found myself standing in a cemetery beside one of the largest coal processing plants in the country. The plant is fed by the nation’s largest underground mining complex. The plant stood massive and tall beside the gravestones an oppressive shadow, its smokestacks like supersized headstones.
