Scientists at Oxford University have developed a technology that they say could significantly speed up testing for COVID-19. The test, which has been validated with real clinical samples at Shenzen Luohou People’s Hospital in China, is much faster than previous tests of RNA (ribonucleic acid, or genetic material). “The new test is much faster and does not need a complicated instrument,” the scientists said in a statement. “Previous viral RNA tests took 1.5 to 2 hours to give a result.
