The Lindsay Clancy Case: Examining Postpartum Psychosis

The Lindsay Clancy case recently ended in a mistrial where 11 jurors believed that she should be acquitted due to insanity based on the defense of postpartum psychosis. Therefore, with the jury deadlocked, Judge Sullivan declared a mistrial. The prosecution has yet to announce whether it will retry the case and there could be a new trial with a different jury. We will have to wait and see. However, regardless of how one views the case, in all of its polarization, it sheds light on the very real phenomenon of postpartum psychosis and how the mental health system may be failing women suffering from this disorder.
