Peak respiratory virus season is fast approaching in the USA, but this year things look a little different. The way that citizens access information about vaccines is changing. The American Medical Association (AMA) has broken with its long-standing tradition of supporting the vaccine recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). Following an historic vote by its 700-strong House of Delegates, the AMA will no longer routinely support recommendations made by the ACIP after May 1, 2025. Instead, the AMA has teamed up with the Vaccine Integrity Project (VIP) to offer its own evidence-based vaccine recommendations for this season. […]
