Coronavirus pandemic gives Australia a chance to fix our skills gaps in technology

Last week we saw the greatest loss of jobs in living memory.
In April nearly 600,000 people became unemployed nationally, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics labour force figures. It’s possible the worst is still to come. In Victoria, Treasury has predicted a peak of 11 per cent in the September quarter, representing a loss of more than 250,000 jobs. Other predictions are even more severe, with the Grattan Institute forecasting that up to one in four workers will be affected nationally.
To navigate this period and recover quickly we must secure the skills in our workforce that drive job creation.[…]
