Feds: LI firm illegally sold Chinese-made surveillance, security equipment to U.S. government
1 min readFederal prosecutors in Brooklyn on Thursday charged a Long Island-based company with illegally importing and selling Chinese-made surveillance and security equipment with “known cybersecurity vulnerability” to U.S. government agencies.
Authorities allege Commack-based Aventura Technologies Inc., and seven of its current and former employees, ran the alleged scheme that authorities say dated back to 2006. Aventura has made $88 million in sales since November 2010, according to authorities.
U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District Richard P. Donoghue said the Chinese-manufactured equipment included network surveillance cameras and was imported into the United States through Kennedy Airport in Queens in 1,000 shipments from China since 2010.
