Iowa State Patrol using new technology that helps investigate fatal crashes

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Iowa State Patrol investigated 149 fatal crashes in 2019. Crash investigations can take several hours and that time is not only costly but dangerous. The Iowa State Patrol is hoping to change that with the help of drones.
“It’s a UAV Program and a technology program where we are able to advance our crash investigations,”said Sergeant Alex Dinkla. Over the next year patrol officers will begin to use small unmanned aircraft systems to quickly and accurately investigate crash scenes by taking a series of photographs.
