New strain of HIV discovered for first time in nearly two decades
1 min readScientists announced Wednesday that they had discovered a new strain of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, for the first time in nearly twenty years.
A study published in the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome first reported by CNN found that the new subtype, dubbed HIV-1 subtype L, is the first new strain of the virus to be identified and was being spread as recently as 2001 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
