Outdoors: Simplicity over technology

When my daughter got married, like all fathers of the bride, I was expected to make a speech. Not surprisingly, I sort of winged it. And about the only thing of substance I offered was that when things become too intense and the pressures of marriage and parenthood become too great, the best thing you can do is simplify your life as much as possible.

I don’t know if that advice has done them much good. My daughter and son-in-law live complicated lives with children and jobs pulling them in all directions. But it was at least advice that was close to my heart.

I don’t care much for gadgets because they seem to over complicate what should not be so complex. I have a computer and a cell phone. But the computer is pushing five years old and the cell phone is an old flip phone. I have no intention of spending the time it takes to become tech savvy enough to get the maximum value out of a smart phone. […]
